01 · The thesis the Institute exists to publish

“We don’t need more electrons. We need more efficient use of the ones we have.”

The substrate operates in the room between absolute physical limits. It does not create energy and does not violate thermodynamics. It captures and utilizes what is already there with structurally better coordination than incumbent architectures. The Institute exists to publish, defend, and operate that architectural posture across every domain where it composes.

02 · Why the Institute exists

Architecture-publication, federal-program engagement, and partner-industry coordination require a coordinating body that is not a SKU. Customer-facing SKUs ship sealed binaries; the Institute publishes architectural arguments. Both are necessary. Neither belongs inside the other.

The Institute operates the posture; Validiti-the-company holds the substrate. Substrate intellectual property, sealed binaries, the Marketplace, the licensee channel, the Certified Facility channel, and all customer-facing SKUs remain with Validiti. The Institute is the umbrella under which architectural publication, standards-body participation, patent prosecution coordination, and federal-program engagement happen on behalf of all the research directions that exist under it.

03 · Research portfolio

Each research direction is a Bell-style architectural invitation. The substrate’s primitives composed onto a specific domain; published for the field to evaluate; available for collaboration with innovative creators in federal program offices, national labs, academic labs, and partner industries.

Direction 01

Validiti Luma

Substrate-on-light · photonic

Substrate primitives composed onto silicon-photonic native operations. Nanosecond-decision-latency intervention floor for cascade detection. Bell-style invitation to silicon-photonics foundries and photonic computing research labs.

Direction 02

Validiti Aether

Substrate for wireless power delivery

Substrate addresses the three binding constraints of wireless power: safety interlock, multi-receiver coordination, authentication and provenance. Aimed at DARPA POWER, space-based solar, dynamic electric vehicle charging.

Direction 03

Validiti Vortex

Substrate for ambient energy capture

Substrate-coordinated coherent capture of radio-frequency, atmospheric electric, mechanical, acoustic, and thermal energy already present in the environment. Sensor-scale to forward-base-scale; not grid replacement.

Direction 04

Validiti Aeolus

Substrate for wind turbine pitch control

Sub-millisecond pitch decision, full lidar-lookahead consumption, joint-distribution across the rotor’s many correlated channels, federated fleet learning. Addresses 3-12% capture loss attributable to control quality across the global installed base.

Direction 05

Validiti Origo

Substrate at the source of sampling

Substrate primitives deployed on the sensor die itself. Decision and signed provenance established before bits leave the package. Aimed at the sensor integrated-circuit and microelectromechanical-systems foundry community.

Direction 06

Active Cascade Suppression

ACSS · substrate for chain-reaction intervention

Sub-millisecond intervention authority in chemical chain reactions on engine test stands and flight propulsion. Cascade detection and suppression before structural failure. Aimed at the defense propulsion program offices and engine original-equipment manufacturers.

Direction 07

Validiti Actus

Substrate at the actuator · the boundary-closing layer

Substrate-native actuator and controller primitives that close the decision-to-action trust boundary. Cryptographically authenticated commands verified at the actuator; physical-outcome verification closes the loop. Aimed at actuator original-equipment manufacturers, motion-controller vendors, and the federal tactical-technology offices.

Direction 08

Validiti Fabrica

Substrate at the shop floor · the making of every physical thing

Substrate-coordinated decision at the fabrication tool: semiconductor lithography, additive printing, multi-axis machining, pharmaceutical reactors, electronics assembly, bioreactors. Joint-distribution across tool sensors, library-based recipe lookup, signed per-part provenance, federated learning across nominally identical tools. The direction where every prior Bell-style instance composes on the same shop floor.

Direction 09 · with demo

Validiti Nucleus

Substrate at the crystallization event · the moment matter chooses its form

Substrate-coordinated control at the single most regulated and value-determining unit operation in modern chemistry. Multimodal process analytical technology fusion at sub-microsecond decision speed, library-based recipe lookup across all prior batches, signed per-batch provenance from feed to filter. Embedded demonstration shows representative outcome delta versus incumbent batch control. Aimed at pharmaceutical continuous-manufacturing programs, battery cathode precursor makers, and crystallization equipment original-equipment manufacturers.

The portfolio is open. Additional research directions are under evaluation. The Institute will publish each as a Bell-style architectural invitation when the substrate’s primitives map cleanly onto a domain where current architectures structurally cannot reach.

04 · Institute benchmarks · cross-cutting measurement

Separate from the research directions, the Institute publishes cross-cutting measurement standards that flow from the apex thesis and apply across every direction it operates. The first is live.

Benchmark 01 · live tool

Compute per Solar Watt

A Validiti Institute benchmark · the apex thesis quantified

How much validated intelligence can a system deliver per square meter of solar panel? An interactive calculator with fourteen workload categories, five latitude bands, and override-anything inputs. Same work, less electricity, smaller footprint — turned into a number anyone can compute.

05 · Who we are inviting

The Institute exists to collaborate with innovative creators. The substrate is published; the implementation is gated; the license terms favor research collaboration.

Federal program offices

DARPA MTO, DARPA POWER, DARPA TTO, DOE Wind Energy Technologies Office, DOE Office of Science, ARPA-E, ARPA-H, NSF Engineering Research Centers, NIST CHIPS Research and Development, Naval Research Laboratory.

National + academic labs

National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Sandia, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory, Air Force Research Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Microsystems Technology Laboratories, Stanford, Berkeley, imec, Fraunhofer, ETH Zurich, Technical University Delft, Technical University of Denmark.

Partner industries

Sensor integrated-circuit and microelectromechanical-systems foundries; turbomachinery original-equipment manufacturers in aerospace, wind, and propulsion; silicon-photonics fabs; advanced-controls retrofit partners; light detection and ranging vendors; secure-element silicon vendors; actuator and motion-control partners.

Who is not eligible. Architectural license terms exclude majority-owned subsidiaries of top-tier hyperscale cloud providers. The substrate’s research-collaboration posture is for broad-industry implementation; it is not for absorption into closed cloud platforms.

06 · What the Institute is not

The Institute is not a fabrication facility. It is not a foundry. It does not design analog front ends. It does not manufacture actuators, blades, lidar units, photovoltaic cells, or rectennas. It does not operate turbomachinery, fly propulsion systems, or own wind assets. It does not compete with its hardware partners. It does not absorb the customer relationships those partners build.

The Institute publishes architecture, holds the architectural intellectual property, coordinates partner industry engagement, and operates the Bell-style posture across every direction it encompasses. Nothing more, nothing less.

07 · Where we are today

The Institute is in founding posture. The architectural arguments behind each research direction are drafted as Bell-style invitations and available on request to qualified research collaborators. Preprint papers in preparation across all nine directions. Federal program concept papers in draft. Patent prosecution coordination with counsel in process.

Operational scaling — senior researcher hiring, multi-program federal contract execution, satellite-lab establishment — follows the underlying revenue line and the readiness of the Validiti Marketplace sealed-binary deployment.
